Hide and Seek

Kalea has embraced the wonderful world of hide and seek along with chasing. She loves to look for people when they are hiding around corners or running just ahead of her. She gets this giant smile on her face, and when she finds the person or the person hiding pops out, she lets out her now legendary squeal and waits to be scooped up and hugged and kissed. This has been so much fun watching her play with others and playing with her. Her wonderful Aunties caught it on video:

Bonk!

So not too long ago I started playing a game with Kalea where I would lift her up by her legs so high that she would eventually hit her head softly on the ceiling. When she reached the ceiling i would quickly bring her back down and say "bonk!" She thought this game was hilarious and since then has made her own variations of the game to the dismay of her mother. She will go up to a wall and tap her head on it and say, "Bonk!" There is an upside to this new found game, whenever she falls now she doesn't always immediately get upset. Now, if the fall is not anything major, she pauses a second and says, "bonk" and goes about her business. Here is a video of her playing the bonk game with one of her toys at Auntie Bonnie and Auntie Noelle's place.

New Park, New Buddy

Last week Kalea got to check out Julius Kahn Playground in the Presidio for the first time. She also rode her first big-kid swing which she was a little unsure of at first, but thanks to her new buddy Jason, she got the hang of it. Jason waited patiently as Kalea got used to the swing going real slow and easy. Kalea held on to his jacket and rested her head on his back until Jas was ready to go off and climb like little boys do - Kalea sat back and rocked the swing by herself for the rest of the time letting out random , "Wheeeeeeees" as she swung back and forth.

Lights!

Kalea loves lights, turning them on and off. Here's a video to show some of the excitement that a dimmer switch can bring a 1 year old. Sorry it's been awhile since the last post, our internet went down, but we're back in business now!

What's for Dinner?

Kalea has been a really good eater so far. She has tried pretty much everything that we have put in front of her and i can't think of anything that she has completely turned away from and not wanted to ever eat. The past few weeks she has been exposed to a couple tastes that i was sure she would turn away from. About a week and a half ago I gave her some chorizo and eggs. She loved it! i was sure that the chorizo would be too spicy or too strong for her, but the kid kept coming back for more. I probably should not have been surprised because one of her favorite things to eat is japanese curry with rice. Last night Kalea got her first taste of sushi. She was all about unagi, and she made her dad really proud by putting away most of her mom's order as we sat down to eat. The kid just really loves food, and it's fun to watch her go at it when she gets new tastes. i'm excited to see how she is when all her teeth come in and she can really get into the great food that we have in arms reach here.
